There are already 26 stores by 1984. Michaels enters Canada with two stores in Toronto. Michaels opens two framing locations in Houston that will later become Atristree, our frame manufacturing subsidiary. Michaels reaches $1B in sales and acquires the 71-store Aaron Brothers chain in 1995 and it begins trading on the NYSE under the symbol MiK.
In 2007, Michaels CARES is formed to assist Team Members in their times of greatest need. A year after, Michaels celebrates its 1000th store opening, updates its logo and becomes "Where Creativity Happens" and by 2010 it reaches $4B in annual sales. Michaels starts selling The Original Rainbow Loom⊃, a product that would go on to win Toy of the Year, in 2013. After a period as a private company, it becomes a publicly-traded company on the NASDAQ with 50,000 Team Members. Michaels names Starlight Children's Foundation its U.S. and Canadian charity partner in 2014. By 2016, Michaels acquires Lamrite West, Inc., which in cludes Pat Catan's Craft Stores and Darice, Inc.
