Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this birding tours class:

Get tips from birding expert Denis Kania to improve your bird identification skills in this online presentation with The Morton Arboretum.

The trick to identifying birds is knowing which details are key to confirming the species. But you need to know what to look for first! Bird identification starts with a simple road map. With practice, you will understand how to read the map and navigate the parts of a bird that will lead to an ID.

In this program, you will:

  • Learn the proper terminology to describe a bird’s features. Whether it is lesser coverts, tertial edges or bill shape there are many details that will help to guide you to your identification.
  • Understand how feathers can change and the impact that will have on a bird’s overall appearance.
  • Learn to record your sighting in your mind quickly, and then pick it apart for the finer details that you’ve recorded without even realizing it.

Notes:

  • This program will take place using Zoom video conferencing. A link will be provided to all registrants by email. Registrants should click on the link to join the program at the scheduled date and time.
  • Participants will need access to the internet via a computer or mobile device.

School Notes: The registrars office is the one who confirms registrations ([email protected]). They respond to emails Monday through Friday between 8:30 and 4pm. If a student registers through Coursehorse on Friday evening for a Saturday class, we will not have a way to confirm them.

Refund Policy

Refund requests must be submitted to the registrar by email ([email protected]) or by phone (630-719-2468) one full business day prior to the program start date.
