Shawn Spencer

Teaches at New York Botanical Garden

Shawn Spencer is the Division Director of the Land Restoration Project for the New York City Parks Department, where he has held a variety of roles for the past 21 years. He has also worked with State Parks and Forests in Virginia and was a consulting forester in Vermont. He is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) where he majored in Forestry and Wildlife Biology. He has been a Cubmaster with the Boy Scouts of America in the Greater NYC area for the past 15 years, and he is also the Councils Outdoor Ethics Advocate and Chair of the Conservation and Outdoor Ethics Committee which oversees programs such as Leave No Trace and Tread Lightly.
