LAwritersgroup.com was founded by Nicole Criona and Sanora Bartels in 2003 with a tiny writers group of five people who wanted to get together and be creative once a week, and to have a place to bring our work in for feedback from fellow group members. As members moved away, we created a website, and next thing we knew people were emailing us, asking to join. Soon the list became so big that we decided to create several different groups, and this is how LAwritersgroup.com was born.
Our mission is to support, encourage, and inspire writers of all genres regardless of experience level. We believe that a writers group or workshop works best with a leader. We help writers generate new ideas and finish projects. Through our writing workshops, our writers groups, our writing classes, as well as our private and group coaching, we aim to create and maintain workshops that leave writers with something tangible to show for their time such as a new idea, a new story, a rewritten outline, or a first draft.
How we choose our leaders?
We take our job of hiring exceptional workshop leaders seriously. Our leaders encourage writers to seed and grow their ideas, then guide them in their yearning for knowledge. This is done while supportively embracing each writer and their individual quests, and by facilitating a space that is both nurturing and constructive.
We choose leaders with a specific skill set and desire to work with aspiring writers. Our leaders know their subject matters well, have studied and been nurtured by some of our greatest literary minds. As a result, they have a breadth of knowledge about literature, poetry, the craft of writing, and the business of writing. Some of our leaders have extensive credits to their name, while some of them are engaged in dedicated pushes for publication. Some of them have taught at traditional college and universities, and some in alternate teaching programs. With Los Angeles Writers Group, you can be assured that each leader has been vetted and recommended with the highest regard, and that once you join our writing family, you will receive an intangible degree of supportiveness from leaders with a great passion writing - their own and yours.
We are in the business of encouraging creativity and helping writers carve out their own voices. It is a mission of all leaders to adhere to and tirelessly support.
About our workshops:
We offer a variety of creative writing workshops. Generally, our workshops are open to writers of all levels and genres however some of our workshop have requirements such as an idea for a web series, or a story you're currently working on. If no requirements are listed, then the workshop is open to any writer regardless of what they write or their experience level.

Fun course! I liked the prompts and getting out of my "corporate" writing mindset. The instructor was good at pointing out the high points of each writer's piece. I would take another one. It was also a good group of people. Many diverse writing talents and story framework.
