What you'll learn in this paper class:

Learn how to create freezer paper foundations for precision piecing. This technique is similar to foundation paper piecing but foundations are reusable and there is no tearing out bits of paper afterwards! 

We will use the Diamonds quilt to learn the technique, and we will discuss how to apply it to many other patterns. In this class we will also look at the use of value and color to create visually complex quilts from the repetition of of a simple block.

Level: Intermediate. Must know how to use a sewing machine and sew a 1/4" seam.

BERNINA sewing machines, neutral thread, irons, and design walls will be provided for use in the classroom.

Required supplies to bring with you: (all supplies available for purchase at Gotham Quilts) 
  • Rotary cutter 
  • Small cutting mat 
  • Pins 
  • Scissors 
  • Freezer paper 
  • Mechanical pencil and eraser 
  • Large rectangular acrylic ruler 
  • Variety of PRE-WASHED fabrics. Bring enough color choices to suit your creative style. Pick fabrics you love with a variety of light and dark options. 
Fabric prep: 
  • pre-cut your fabric 6" by width-of-fabric. 
  • A 60"x70" throw requires 6.5-7 yards of fabric. 
  • A 24"x25" mini requires .75-1 yard. 
Other materials:
  • Mini portable iron (optional) 
  • Small 30"x30" piece of batting to lay out your design (optional)More Information
