Glass is a very unique material compared to other craft materials. You cannot touch the glass directly, the glass will respond better if you are consistently practicing, and it takes time to master the techniques. On the other hand, you can use your own original ideas, tools and processes to create unique work that is less reliant on standard processes.
Traditional techniques are necessary to begin to play with glass, so this class will include basic introductions to traditional glassblowing and safety in the studio, while allowing exploration into your interests through experimental processes. The value of your work is not only in the beauty of the material, but in the process you and the material weave together. Why not take this time to get to know yourself?
What to Expect: This class content will be experimental, and the instructor will encourage students to play with the glass material and listen to their interests. Technique is important, of course, but the focus of this course is to discover new aspects of glass that can continue to be pursued in the future. While experimenting, expect failures alongside successes.
Additional work time for intensive students: Students will also have access to additional hours in the glassblowing studio, without instruction, on Wednesday - Saturday from 1pm-4pm.
Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight so the students may have to return once notified to pick up their work from the final day of class. Please plan accordingly.
Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
