What you'll learn in this earrings class:

Maybe work-from-home has had you using your oven a little more? Maybe a little less? (No shame in all those take-out orders!) Well, get ready to fire it up for a whole new reason with our very first earring class.

Wait, you make earrings in the oven?! If they’re made out of polymer clay, yes!

Join us for this fun, fresh new workshop and learn how to turn oven-bake clay into unique earrings using just a few tools and your endless imagination! Mix colors, create patterns like gradients and marble and even learn how to add texture and layered elements to your one-of-a-kind creations. Get ready, because you and your new earrings are about to own those Zoom meetings!

And don’t worry if you’re a little pressed for creative inspiration, we’ve whipped up some ready-made template shapes to take the pressure off and make sure you’re creating something chic and totally on-trend!

In just two hours you will:

  • Learn how to condition and work with polymer clay
  • Design your own earring templates using tracing paper and cardstock
  • Cut, shape and bake your pieces
  • Learn how to finish, assemble and turn your clay pieces into wearable art (aka: earrings!)

This is a beginner-friendly class so no previous jewelry or clay craft experience necessary!

Any brand of oven-bake clay will work, and you will need an oven that can reach a temperature of 275 degrees Fahrenheit.

Suggested supplies:

  • Polymer (oven-bake) clay (Brand and colors of your choice! Make sure you have multiple colors so you can create the gradient and marble patterns!)
  • Xacto knife
  • Cardstock and tracing paper
  • Acrylic roller (a glass bottle or smooth glass jar will work too)
  • Needle nose pliers
  • 4mm jump rings (around 4-8 or more)
  • 8mm jump rings (around 4-8 or more)
  • Earring hooks (around 2-3 sets or more)
  • Needle tool (a tapestry needle or paper clip will work as well)
  • Emery board or fine grit sandpaper

What You’ll Need at Home:

  • Glue Stick
  • Scissors
  • Magazines (not required, but great for finding inspiring shapes)
  • Pencil
  • Baking tray and aluminum foil
  • A smooth surface such as a glass slab, countertop (not wooden) or parchment paper (this will help to insure that your clay will be smooth and indent-free when you roll it out)
  • Oven (must be able to reach a temp of 275 degree Fahrenheit)

And this is how a WebJam works:

After you purchase your ticket (via the Eventbrite link on this page), you will receive an email with a custom URL link to join. You will be able to add the event to your calendar. Reminder emails will be sent 2 hour and 45 minutes prior to the start. Make sure to login 10 before the WebJam starts to avoid technical difficulties that may delay you.

While using Zoom we strongly recommend video participation. Unlike traditional webinars, we’re keeping our classes small and intimate. CraftJam was founded to foster community amongst its participants and part of this is seeing and interacting with each other as well as the option to receive feedback and support for your projects from your JamMaster.
