This 3 day workshop is an introduction to direct casting. Students will learn to make molds, melt, and pour silver in the BKMW studio, allowing for the quick translation of ideas into metal.
This course will cover cuttlefish bone and sand casting. Students are able to create fully formed jewelry or components ready to incorporate into larger designs.
Open to all levels.
There will be a $20 kit available at the first class. Bring your own metal and dress appropriately for casting.
Basic Materials
Metal Supply
1-3 lbs of Ancient Bronze Casting Grain
Sterling Silver Casting Grain - the amount is up to you
*for reference, a generously sized ring might require about 1.5 troy oz of sterling silver for casting. Clean sterling silver sheet or wire may be used for casting, but it must be solder-free.
