What you'll learn in this metal working class:

During this 4 hour metal fabrication workshop, students will create a small scale coffee table. The instructor will guide you through welding, metal forming, and machine operation to construct the frame of your project. After the main frame of the project is created, wood will be used to complete the surfaces of each piece.

Important Things to Note:
  • Introduction to Metal Fabrication provides a hands-on introduction to metalworking and fabrication. Along with learning the basics of metalworking, the class will cover manufacturing and assembly of metal components as done in a professional metal shop.
  • Each design also incorporates the use of woodworking techniques to help complete the exterior of the project.
  • To achieve the perfect mix of high-quality metalworking with a clean wood finish, we will cover wood finishing techniques, like grinding, smoothing, blending, and patination.

Question from anonymous
Hi, I was wondering if we are able to design our own table or if we will use a standard template? Thank you Gavin Kelly
Answer from Taras K. Verified Educator
Hi Gavin, The table built in this workshop follows a standard template, but have the Choice of 1/4" steel rod or 1/4" x 1/8" steel angle material for the legs, and are encouraged to ask about additions or changes to the template. While we can't guarantee that every idea will translate to a functional design, we love to see people think outside the box! -Liam

Amazing instructor who seems really into his craft. Very knowledgeable. You get to cut, bend and weld metal and some minor wood work. You end up with a nice looking planter stand. Will be taking the knife making class next.
