Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this landscape painting class:

This course is for anyone interested in exploring the language of landscape painting through specific exercises in composition, color theory, and paint application.

Students will work on small canvases for color studies and other exercises and eventually a larger painting brought to a higher degree of finish. We will go outdoors once or twice to sketch plein air.

Some of these studies will be used to finishing bigger painting in the studio. topics to be covered include: a brief history of landscape painting composition. basic perspective, principles of light and shadow, color, as well as Notha design and poster study sketches.

Q&A

Q: Is a specific type of paint required for this class?
A: No, you should choose the type of paint that you want to use. There are very large price differences for different brands and levels of quality. While we always want you to have the best materials, it’s not necessary to buy the finest paints if you're just exploring the medium. However, it is good to try a variety of brands to learn your preferences.

Q: Can I make up a class if I miss one?
A: No, there are no makeup classes. Because art is taught with demonstrations and demonstrations are time consuming, if one person misses the class each week, the instructor would spend the first part of each class repeating the demonstration from last week before moving on to the next lesson, which isn't fair to the students who attended. That said, most of our classes are taught atelier style. If there is a demonstration during the particular session, after the demonstration, the instructor goes to each student to work with them on a one-on-one basis. During this time, the instructor can work with you if you missed the previous week to talk and explain what to do.

Q: Are material provided or included on the cost of the class?
