Thu, May 20, 6:00pm - Jun 10, 8:00pm Eastern Time (4 sessions)
Artists’ books have been used as sites for exploring ideas for many centuries. From the sketchbook to a completed work in the book format, book structures help artists present their concerns in a condensed intimate environment that utilizes two and three-dimensional space in combination with time. This unique aspect of books provides the opportunity to organize content and practice technique in ways that may differ from other forms of art.
This course will examine the book as a space for artistic production. Through demonstrations, students will acquire skills in book construction. Students will practice combining structure and content in a concise and meaningful way. A variety of book structures will be covered. This course will focus on book structures and craftsmanship. If students have skills with digital printing or printmaking, they are welcome to use these to complement the content of the class.
This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.
Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.
