Embrace the Chaos

Using only paper and pencils – no computers required! – Participants walk through a series of worksheet exercises that mimic the programming language that Libs uses to generate her quilt patterns. By using controlled elements in a random way, each participant will end up with a unique quilt pattern layout – no two Chaos Quilts are the same!

As a group, we’ll discuss design flow and tweak our individual layouts. Then we’ll cut fabrics and work on piecing our designs, using provided block-building instructions. At the end of the class, each participant will leave with their own random geometric quilt design and will have the knowledge required to complete the project at home.

Note: Must know how to use a sewing machine, rotary cut, and sew a 1/4″ seam.

CLASS SUPPLY LIST (all supplies except colored pencils/markers available for purchase at the school)

FABRIC
Using a series of worksheets and fun exercises (not the sweaty kind!), we’ll be drafting random quilt designs in class, then bringing them to life. The finished quilt tops will be 30”x30”. I suggest bringing a total of at least 2 yards of fabric (or 8-10 Fat Quarters), in a variety of 5 – 10 different prints/solids that you love and would like to see together in a quilt. Go as simple or wild as you like! For fabric inspiration, look up #rebelquilt on Instagram as the quilts we’ll be drafting will be similar in style.

ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES

• Pencil crayons or colored markers – we’ll use these to color our quilt designs
• Pencil
• Straight pins
• Scissors
• Rotary cutter
• 6”x24” or 6”x12” quilting ruler

Cutting mats, sewing machines, neutral thread and iron will be provided for use in the classroom.
