Question from Pete A.
The course description seems intentionally vague in terms of describing facilities and equipment. I would assume a solid introduction to woodworking would be the basis for any Furniture Design Foundation course. You cannot design furniture without first understanding basic joinery. Which specific woodworking skills and joinery will be taught? Which hand tools will students be taught to use? Which machine tools will students be taught to use?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Pete! This is a furniture design course (not a woodworking or furniture making course). We focus on aesthetics, composition, proportions, ergonomics, comfort, and construction of furniture. The class doesn't include workshop training and access. Students work on models and prototypes using own hand and power tools. Hope this helps!

Question from Susie
I’m thinking of trying my hand at making a custom size low-med high stand/base for a bronze statue to sit on. Is this something I can make in this class.
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Susie! This is a furniture design course (not a woodwork or furniture making course). You will focus on aesthetics, composition, proportions, ergonomics, comfort, and construction of furniture. The class doesn't include workshop training and access. Students work on models and prototypes using their own hand and power tools.
Answer from Susie
So do I end up w a finished piece of furniture or just a prototype or model of what a finished piece would look like?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Susie! The course is more of a furniture design course. They will be working on a project, usually a stool, but students won't be working in class on the project. They would have to work at home. It's a furniture design course where the students learn more about how to design, good designs, steps involved in designing a piece of furniture but it's not a woodworking class.
