What you'll learn in this knife skills class:

Whether you cook occasionally or every day, great knife skills are a time (and finger) saver in the kitchen. You will learn the basics, starting with choosing the right tools and properly holding a knife. In this class, practice at least 15 basic cuts, including how to dice, slice, mince, chiffonade, julienne, supreme and zest. With your newly honed techniques, you will become more efficient and consistent, and you will reduce waste and keep yourself safe!

Suggested Menu (to use up what you cut):

  • Cucumber, Tomato, and Herb Salad with Suprémed Citrus Vinaigrette
  • Seasonal Fruit Cobbler


Your entire household can participate. All ages. No prep. You might want to turn your cuts into a quick dinner and dessert. Recipes will be provided. No special ingredients or tools required.

What you need:

  • cutting board
  • knife
  • bench scraper, recommended
  • peeler
  • zester or microplane, optional
  • tomatoes
  • cucumbers
  • 1-2 pounds seasonal fruit
  • oranges, limes, and/or lemons
  • basil, parsley, and/or mint
  • onion
  • garlic
  • other vegetables if you like — celery, carrots, peppers, etc. 
  • mixing bowls
  • ingredients for vinaigrette, optional (recipe will be provided)
  • ingredients for fruit cobbler,  optional (recipe will be provided)

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

Refund Policy

For single-session public events or classes or single days within multi-day classes:

  • If student cancels 7 or more days before the class/event start time, student is eligible for a cash refund (less a 7% processing fee) or a credit voucher (100% of purchase price) towards another Teaching Table class/event.

  • If student cancels 2 or more days before the class/event, student is eligible to apply the payment towards another Teaching Table class or event, including private classes and events.

  • No shows cannot be refunded. Cancelling after the cut off, withdrawing, or failing to attend results in forfeiting the full amount of the class or event fee. Student may send someone else to participate and/or receive materials. Not all classes are recorded. Please ask in advance of class.
