Every time you brew a pot or cup of coffee, nearly a thousand flavor compounds, volatile aromatics and oils are being pulled from the beans, creating a complex and (hopefully) delicious experience. However, not all that coffee has to give contributes positive flavor—we’ve all had those underwhelming cups that are either too sour, too bitter, too weak or too strong.
In our brewing fundamentals class, you will learn the science of brewing, referred to as extraction theory, so you can make informed decisions leading to delicious brews. We’ll cover how to determine the proper amount of coffee for a given batch size, selecting the appropriate grind size, and making adjustments based on taste.
Example recipes for popular brewing methods, such as pour over, aeropress, and cold brew will be discussed, but the theory covered in the class will apply to all methods. This is a great class for any curious coffee enthusiast looking to take their home brewing game to the next level.
