Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this coffee class:

Go behind the scenes with Joe Coffee’s roasting team at our very own roasting facility and QC lab in Long Island City! Participants will learn the basics of the roasting process through a comparative roasting demonstration, examining various roast profiles of a single coffee to explore the variables that affect flavor. By tasting the coffees side by side, participants get a closer look at how roasting can highlight a coffee’s sweetness and complexity.

The class will include an overview of the cupping process, which is the industry standard method of tasting and evaluating coffee. In addition, this class also includes a tour of the roastery and a chance to explore each step of the production process.

Explorations in Roasting is a two and a half hour class. All materials are included in the price, and students will be able to take home coffee that is roasted during the class. No experience necessary.

Very impressive. The instructor is very knowledgeable. He can tell if the farmer changed fertilizer or an insect nested on a branch.

This class was without a doubt the best coffee class i've ever taken. I learned so much valuable knowledge from Ed and his team, they really are a treat to listen to and learn from. Ed took us through every stage of the roast and goes at a great pace so you can easily follow along. We learned not only the basics of how to roast, but also the reason why each step is the way it is. After roasting, we cupped our own roast and it was so eye opening to learn how different characteristics affect the roast. Great class, can't say enough about how awesome Ed is. I'll definitely be continuing my training with him.
