What you'll learn in this mixology class:

Become the master of your own home bar! In this class we focus on gin and rum drinks. We will cover everything you need to know about making the perfect Martini (To Shake or to Stir?), sweeten things up with a Clover Club, and close out with a swizzle (an elevated version of the Mojito)head into the world of swizzles.

We will learn the history behind each drink and technique, how to choose the right spirits for your cocktail, and answer any burning cocktail queries you may have. Below are the ingredients for each drink: you can make them all or choose which ones you will try your hand at making. Most folks choose to make all three!

Cocktails you will learn:

  • Martini
  • Clover Club
  • Queens Park Swizzle

Materials You'll Need to Participate Fully:

If you are ordering alcohol online, we recommend

If you're making a Martini:

  • Gin (London Dry Style suggested)
  • Dry Vermouth
  • Lemon Peel
  • Orange bitters

If you're making a Clover Club:

  • Gin (London Dry Style suggested)
  • Dry Vermouth (same as the Martini)
  • Rich Simple Syrup (make ahead - recipe below)
  • Fresh lemon juice (1 lemon per drink)
  • Raspberries (1 6oz container is enough - frozen also work)
  • Egg (1 per drink)

If you're making a Queen's Park Swizzle:

  • Rum
  • Rich Simple Syrup (make ahead - recipe below)
  • Fresh lime juice (1 lime per drink)
  • Fresh mint (5 sprigs)
  • Angostura Bitters (or other aromatic bitters)
  • Crushed ice

Other ingredients/materials:

  • Paring knife (any small knife works)
  • Cutting board
  • Dish towel
  • Jigger or shot glass
  • Strainer (Hawthorne preferred)
  • Fine mesh strainer (tea or pasta strainer works, too!)
  • Mixing glass or large open rimmed glass
  • Cocktail shaker or jar with a tight fitting lid
  • Bar spoon or long, small spoon
  • Swizzle stick (only if you have one - bar spoon will also work!)
  • Ice (lots of it!)
  • Rocks glass (any short glass will do!)
  • 2 Coupe or martini glasses
  • Optional: cocktail pick

Rich Simple Syrup Recipe:

Bring 1/2 cup water to a boil, dissolve 1 cup sugar in water. Let cool. Store in air-tight container in fridge (glass preferred).

Virtual Class FAQ

What will be included in my Virtual Class package?

One ticket includes an access link to your live, online class. The class will be delivered via web conferencing software and feature a live, professional instructor who will walk you through a lesson as described above. You will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as participate from home.

How many people is my purchase good for?

Each ticket is good for one "device" (i.e. one computer, phone, tablet, etc. you'll be logging in from). This ensures we don't get more people in the class than the instructor can handle. Though we understand some people live together and will be working/learning together, the intent is that each class still allows for the same attention to attendees as if students purchased separately. Please be respectful of this!

Will I need anything from home to use in the class?

You will need a reliable Internet connection as well as a computer or device with which you can access your virtual class. We recommend you arrive to class 5-10 minutes early to ensure you're able to set up your device and connection. Additionally, if the class is more than just a lecture you will likely want any materials listed in the course description as "Materials Needed to Participate Fully", though you're welcome to purchase a seat and sit in and just watch.

Am I able to ask questions or interact with the class?

Yes, you'll both be able to ask questions using the chat function in the video hosting software as well as at certain intervals during the class via voice/audio. If the class winds up being on the smaller side, more spontaneous interaction/questions will be encouraged.

Do I have to show my video or speak during class?

While we recommend you do show your video and speak when encouraged to by the instructor, video and audio participation are never mandatory. We find classes have more fun experiences when people are engaging with one another, but understand not everyone will want to do so and that's ok!

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

Students may cancel any time 48 hours or more before the class to receive a refund. Students canceling less than 48 hours before a class will receive a full credit towards rescheduling or purchasing a different class.

All the drinks were very dry. It would be nice to be able to tailor them to sweeter palates Erin should throw in some more molecule chemistry knowledge too. Nerds are awesome.
