This class will be based around the retrospective, Carrie Mae Weems: Three Decades of Photography and Video. Weems– a black artist from Portland, Oregon–confronts difficult questions of gender politics and race relations in the United States and art history more generally.

Her oeuvre is incredibly powerful, and she is the first black woman to get a solo retrospective at the Guggenheim. Don’t miss this historic event!
