Join us for a world premiere of a song cycle about a little-known locus of New York history: 64 East 7th Street performed by Theo Bleckmann (Vocals), Alicia Olatuja (Vocals), Dan Tepfer (Piano), and a chamber-jazz ensemble. The site was at the heart of eight dramatic moments in the life of the city, from the Slocum disaster through the Beat era to today. The music is by eight composers from the worlds of jazz, classical, and "post-classical" music: Darcy James Argue, Theo Bleckmann, Regina Carter, Ted Hearne, Kirk Nurock, Renee Rosnes, Sarah Kirkland Snider, and Dan Tepfer and features the libretto by cultural historian David Hajdu.
Soul of the City: Live @ MCNY is a new series of intimate concerts featuring a wide range of New York City artists, both upcoming and veteran, performing acoustic sets and sharing the personal stories behind their music.
