What you'll learn in this construction training:

Skills Training for Building Supers, Part A: Certificate of Competency

This short program prepares individuals to work as building supers and handyman. Students will learn the essential skills needed to maintain a small residential building. Topics include plumbing, electrical, tiling, plaster/drywall, as well as essential communication skills for working with tenants and outside contractors.

This lecture and hands-on-training class is designed to prepare you for work as am in-house super. Students will receive a certificate of completion that may be presented as evidence of having met the educational requirements to work as a competent building super.

We have excellent labs where students can take apart and put together toilets, faucets, locks, wire outlets, sweat pipes as well as learn to plaster, set tile and perform the everyday tasks of a resident super. Peter will also be discussing bedbugs and rats and the workings of heating systems. This is an extremely hands on class!

Although HPD does not currently ask for the certificate of competency, its our belief that supers must be very competent- and must have the people skills to work with residents and outside contractors.

Question from ralph r.
Is this good for an experience maintenance man that will be running a building?
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Ralph! Part of the training deals with communicating with outside contractors and working with tenants. It's a series of classes. It starts off with the basic skills but it includes working with tenants and contractors. It's basically for a maintenance person who wants to get into the field and then somebody who wants to move up because the other 2 sections are geared to someone who wants to move to a management role.
