What you'll learn in this audio software training:

Give your eyes a break and try non-fiction audio. Audio storytelling can take on different exciting formats, from journalism to documentary, and podcasts to experimental collage.

Add to your foundation of audio production and post-production skills to make your own imageless story by planning, recording and editing aural material such as interviews, field recordings and sound effects.

This is a Production workshop at the Extensions level in which you create original work.

Topics include:

  • Differences between Podcasting, Radio, and other Audio Stories
  • Story Development
  • Interviewing Options
  • Ambient Sound and Sound Sources
  • Preparing for Recording Sessions
  • Field Gear
  • Producing a Story
  • Assembling a Story
  • Exporting and Distribution
Prerequisite(s): Audio Fundamentals and Pro Tools or equivalent experience is required.

Required: Students must bring their own personal hard drive. We recommend it meets the following minimum criteria:
  • 100GB free space
  • 7200 RPM
  • Mac Compatible
  • USB3 or Thunderbolt connection (recommended), Firewire 800 (possible)
Materials:

Aside from a hard drive, we provide all equipment and are committed to a 2:1 student to camera ratio. Each student will be equipped with a 27-inch iMac with 5K retina display running Pro Tools 2018.10. Personal equipment other than the hard drive is not permitted.

Note:

The price of workshop includes a one year DCTV Membership giving you access to equipment rentals, post production facilities, and discounts on workshops and events.

Question from Riza S.
Hi. I do not have these pre-requisites: audio Fundamentals and Pro Tools or anything equivalent, could I participate in the course?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Riza! The student does not need to have taken the prerequisites with DCTV, but they need to have the skills and knowledge covered in those workshops because there will not be a time in the workshop to cover the basics of audio recording or editing in Pro Tools. The student will be at a disadvantage without that info and experience. If you don't have any equivalent experience, the school advise not to take the workshop.

Question from Daniel
Hi, who is the instructor and is there a place where I can listen to past student work to get an idea of the class? Thank you!
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Daniel! The school hasn't booked the instructor for Audio Storytelling yet, but it will be announced on the school's website when it's available. They also don't archive most of the student work.

Virtual Salary Negotiations 101 for Women

at Lisa Gillette -

Getting thanked for doing a 'good job' is nice, but thank you in a paycheck is much better! So why is that most women have such a hard time asking for a raise, or negotiating a higher salary with a new job offer?
