What you'll learn in this design thinking class:

Design Thinking: Creative Problem Solving for Entrepreneurs

Design Thinking is a popular framework for using design methods to solve a wide range of business problems. It emphasizes empathy building, information visualization, and brainstorming, among other techniques to solve problems and prototype solutions within groups and organizations.

In this workshop, we’ll look at several frameworks for design thinking. We’ll learn when to apply it and when it might not work. We’ll look at the connection between fields as diverse as psychology to product development to behavioral economics.

Students will learn by doing in a series of exercises and activities meant to spark creative, problem-solving energy. Participants will work in teams and individually to solve simple familiar problems, scenarios you are given, and also real work problems that you’re dealing with in your current work.

Design thinking stresses the involvement of entire organizations; participants will gain insight on how to solve problems using design-centric techniques that are applicable regardless of the industry.

Takeaways:

  • Get unstuck with your current business or team problem.
  • Narrow down or refine your product or business idea.
  • Facilitate team communication.
  • Identify user-based project goals.
  • Leverage existing assets to grow your business or to launch a new project from scratch.
  • List key information types and organize information about the problem or project using them
  • Visualize and interpret project data to disclose patterns and articulate their meanings.
  • Brainstorm using blue sky thinking to discover creative rather than analytical solutions.
  • Prototype solutions to problems that you can take with you outside of the classroom.
Preparation:

None. You don’t have to be a designer to attend this workshop. While this workshop is geared towards non-profit org teams, aspiring business owners, startup founders, and small business stakeholders, all disciplines are encouraged to participate.

School Notes:
For students enrolling in 12 week part time and immersive classes, it is not recommended that you book more than one class simultaneously.
