It got the job done but the instructor could have delivered the material better. Often times he started going very deep into a top without explaining it first so the whole class was confused. Then we would have to back track and go over what exactly he was talking about. It was almost like he forgot we were taking this class because we had never used SQL before.

The class was very hands on and useful in real life scenarios. Gave the basic tool to implement SQL on your personal computer and the basics to use it in a work scenario. Tommy was great at keeping the class engaged and also made the class fun.

The projector didn't work. The teacher was a competent programmer, but not an expert in SQL, the teacher would google answers to our questions. He Most of the class could have been completed without the professor using an online class. We didn't get very far content wise. The class basically consisted of a short presentation and then the students doing practice problems using a free internet resource.

I liked the instructor of this class. He was very patient and helpful. The pace of the class was good too. Not too fast and not too slow. You needed to have had some experience with SQL prior to taking the class to get the most out of it.

Joshi seemed baffled for most of the class. Really nice, but nervous. He didn’t approach it as a 101 class, spent a lot of time talking about excel, but using google sheets so he’d have to walk back his points. (Ie he wanted to make a point that SQL is better than excel bc you can’t x in excel, but you can in google sheets, so the point doesn’t land) Then when he showed the solution in SQL it didn’t pertain, so you didn’t get the underlying reasoning for what we were doing. He had a really hard time writing answers on the fly and would go back/delete/try something else, forget to include the commands so you couldn’t really follow what he was doing. Hard to learn without being able to follow or understand the underlying strategy. He did try to intermittently drop the lines into slack, however it was in an open # so everything he sent got buried. All in all nice guy, who spent a good amount of time answering individual questions, but he wouldn’t have had to had it been a little bit better structured.

I thought this was an excellent introduction to SQL. Alex's explanation of the concepts and the examples he used were easy to follow and made sense. It was two short classes, but I feel like I came away with a solid understanding of how SQL works. I recommend the class and Alex as a teacher.

Our instructor, Alex, was great! the pace is a little quick but the result is that you learn a Lot in just 2 classes. you're fine if you just pay attention and the handouts seemed to cover everything he taught. Alex also went around to see how each student was doing when he gave practice exercises to make sure that we all were understanding and he was great with positive feedback. my only issue was that the print of the screen shots in the handouts were almost too small to read but it was manageable and not entirely necessary to learn the lessons. Alex was also very open to be helpful regarding any questions or assistance needed after the 2 class course ended. Thank you, Alex, for your efforts!

Question from Oliver B.
Does anyone know how the topics are broken out over each of the three sessions?
Answer from Anonymous
Hi, The first session will cover an introduction to SQL, how to write basic queries. The second session has more advanced SQL, such as examples of window and string functions, and a portion on CRUD, to create and update a new table. The third session is putting what we learned in the first two sessions together for a capstone project on creating a Dashboard and putting together an exploratory analysis.
