What you'll learn in this web development course:

Learn how to build a web app with HTML, CSS, and Ruby.

In this course, students will learn the mechanics to build Sinatra-based web applications. By the end of the two weeks, students will have built a complex web app to share online!

Both beginners and students who have taken front-end development courses are welcome. Our Pre-College curriculum is sourced from Flatiron School's adult courses, which train students to use the same tools and practices professional developers use every day.

What you will learn:

Learn how to use Ruby, an in-demand language used to power apps like AirBnB. Students will explore concepts in back-end software engineering through hands-on coding and group collaboration. Past projects have included apps that give first aid advice, plan wardrobes according to weather, and even track drought-ridden regions — the possibilities are endless!

Required Materials:

If you have your own laptop, bring it and we'll help you get your development environment set up. If you don't have one, don't worry! We'll provide you with a customized Chromebook you can use in class (and take home) for the duration of the course. There is no fee associated with using a loaner.
