Young Philosophers of New York is part of the educational division of the Gotham Philosophical Society, a federal 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping New Yorkers think deeply about their lives and the direction of their city.
The Young Philosophers of New York program is the ongoing work of a group of older (which is not to say old!) New York City philosophers and educators who are enthusiastically committed to sharing their love of thinking with New York’s youth.
We believe children are natural born philosophers. Full of wonder, they possess a playful willingness to explore the boundaries of received wisdom, and a healthy urge to question everything. At Young Philosophers of New York, our mission is to provide children with the environment where they will learn to ask those questions well. We want to help them become confident and critical thinkers, and to be able to articulate the reasons why they believe what they believe.
