Debra Clifford

Teaches at The Jalopy Theatre and School of Music

Debra Clifford is well known on the old-time scene in the northeast as a great guitar/mandolin player, an unparalleled harmony singer and half of the Lonesome Sisters duet. Debra Clifford has played in many bluegrass, early country and old time bands, including with Ginny Hawker & Tracy Schwarz, Hazel Dickens, Mac Benford, and Alice Gerrard, and has recorded rhythm guitar with the old time stringband jimmyjohnnnyjoe. When not singing with Val, she sings and plays guitar, mandolin, clawhammer banjo and tenor guitar in the Lonesome Sisters with Sarah Hawker. She was a member of the winning 2009 Clifftop stringband, The Bailers. Debra is also a fine teacher (with the paper to prove it: She's got an MS.Ed!). In addition to workshops with Val, she’s taught at Ashokan Southern Week and will teach again in the summer of 2012. She is also the mayor of Ancestorville, a history & genealogy facebook town with 22,500 members: Stop by and visit!
