Dr. Neta Agmon & Dr. Paolo Mita

Dr. Neta Agmon received her Bachelors of Science in Biology from Tel Aviv University in Israel. She received her Master of Science in Genetics from Tel Aviv University, studying the mechanism of formation of extrachromosomal circular DNA and its replication by rolling circle. She received her PhD from the department of Molecular Microbiology and Biotechnology in Tel Aviv University studying the choice of mechanism for the repair of a Double Strand break in the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In 2012 she moved to the US to work on building multigene pathways in yeast cells at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the lab of Dr. Jef Boeke. The lab relocated to New York University Langone School of Medicine at 2014. Her research interests are genetics and synthetic biology and using budding yeast as a model system for human diseases.

Dr. Paolo Mita is a post-doctoral fellow in Dr. Jef Boeke's laboratory since 2012. He obtained the laurea in Biological Sciences with a trend in molecular biology at the University of Lecce (Italy) and subsequently worked at the Italian Center of Research (CNR) and Universita’ Federico II in Naples (Italy) under the supervision of Dr. Scarfi’ and Dr. Abrescia, focusing on bio-electromagnetism, apoptosis, and atherosclerosis. In 2006, Dr. Mita moved to New York and obtained a joint PhD at NYU medical school and Universita’ di Milano in 2012, working on androgen receptor transcriptional regulation, under the supervision of Dr. Susan Logan. In Dr. Boeke's laboratory, Dr. Mita is exploring the interactions of LINE-1 retrotransposon with human host cells trying to identify key cellular regulators of LINE-1 activity.
