  I recently attended Herbs 101 at the Remedies Herb Shop in Carroll Gardens and was pleasantly surprised to find a friendly environment for newcomers as well as a very knowledgeable proprietor. I find my self now infusing oat straw and dandelion root at home. I highly recommend this course and I look forward to taking more classes at this establishment.

  I took a skincare workshop class yesterday with Remedies Herb Shop, and I'm so glad I did. Jo Anne was super friendly, knowledgeable, and led the class at a nice pace. Her individual suggestions for each student's goals impressed me the most, and I will happily take another class with them again.

  I came to learn about herbal medicine. We were handed a Herbs 101 packet, not a packet for our class. Every time I asked questions from the Herbs 101 packet, I was immediately cut off that I had to sign up for Herbs 101 class to learn about the material. I paid money to learn about herbal medicine in this class, not be lectured that I have to sign up for Herbs 101 class. So I asked why we were not given a packet for our current class. The instructor said that we were supposed to write everything down. However, the spelling of various herbs and Latin root names were tricky. I kept on having to ask how to spell this or that herb. My energy was focused on correct spelling rather than learning the material. The teacher was also reading from the packet (which she would not provide to students). The reading from the packet makes me wonder if she already knows this material well. Later I think the instructor noticed I was really upset. So she started answering my herb questions and stopped responding with the same answer that I have to sign up for Herbs 101 class. So in the end, the class ended up being okay, but not great.

  This is a enlightening and beautiful class. Our teacher, Jo Anne, has a wide breadth of knowledge on the medicinal weeds, as well as a beautiful reverence for our plant friends. I can’t recommend this class highly enough.

  Jo-Ann was so patient and helpful every step of the way. She made a very practical course fun and engaging. We had one person ask incredibly annoying and repetitive questions and Jo-Ann was able to remain calm and explain the process thoroughly. I would recommend this class to others - great for beginners and beyond.
