Adam Ray

Teaches at New York City Guitar School

Adam Ray is a multi-instrumentalist, educator and composer. He began his professional music career at the age of 16, studied under Quentin Baxter at the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC. After graduating, Adam became one of the most in-demand musicians in the Southeast, performing with regional professional big bands and in rock, metal, funk, jazz, Brazilian and Cuban contexts, as well as orchestral and musical theatre productions. He also began his teaching career coaching jazz combos at the College of Charleston, as well as teaching private lessons in drum, guitar and piano.

Since moving to New York, he has performed in Minton’s, Jazz at Kitano, Rockwood Music Hall, Bowery Electric and many other venues, and has worked with well known artists such as Dave Schnitter of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, trumpet greats Josh Evans and Warren Vache, Claire Daly, Victor Provost, Jack Wilkins, Reuben Studdard and more, including performing with the Peter Mihelich of John Hendricks’s and Jimmy Cobb’s groups during a month-long residency performing on Mackinac Island, MI.

Adam is elated to be working with New York City Guitar School and prides himself on bringing an understanding, relaxed and passionate perspective to helping students achieve their goals–and we are delighted to have such a skilled, patient and dedicated addition to our team.
