Sam Harmet

Teaches at The Jalopy Theatre and School of Music

Sam has played mandolin with many ensembles in a wide variety of styles. Most recently, he led the klezmer-electro-funk band Shtetlblasters and previously had toured and recorded with the bluegrass group The People's Republic of Gefiltestan. Beyond klezmer and bluegrass, he has also studied jazz under Peter Dominguez at Oberlin College and under noted gypsy jazz mandolinist Sims Delaney-Potthoff. Additionally, he has studied klezmer and Eastern European music extensively under the tutelage of Henry Sapoznik and Jeff Warschauer. Sam is a mandolin player of diverse tastes. Though most steeped in klezmer and gypsy jazz, over the years he has explored a range of styles from bluegrass to contemporary improv to noise to funk. As a teacher, he is eager to help students expand their technical knowledge of the mandolin and further their musical development. Build repertoire, gain a broader knowledge of the fretboard, develop improvisational abilities and your personal voice in this class. Let the mandolin adventures begin!
