Slate Grove

Teaches at Brooklyn Glass

Slate Grove was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1979. Slate was first introduced to glass in 2002 while attending the Cleveland Institute of Art, where he continued his studies until receiving his BFA degree in 2006. Slate spent two years in New York City working as an artist and instructor at UrbanGlass in Brooklyn, NY. From there, he accepted the position of Glass Studio Coordinator at Penland School of Crafts, in Penland, N.C., where he worked until returning to academia for graduate school in 2010. Slate spent three years refining his artistic practice at Illinois State University before receiving his MFA in 2013. Slate was chosen a “Rising Star” by the Florida Glass Art Alliance for the 2013 Glass Weekend at Wheaton Village in Millville, NJ. Slate is currently represented by Habatat Galleries in Royal Oak, MI. Slate’s work has been exhibited in Riihimaki, Finland; Seattle, WA; Chicago, IL; Toronto, Ontario, Canada; New York, NY; Cleveland, OH; and Louisville, KY. Slate has taught at Illinois State University, Normal, IL; Tavastia College, Nuutajarvi, Finland; Snow Farm: The New England Craft Program, Williamsburg, MA; 160 Glass, Brooklyn, NY and Urban Glass, Brooklyn, NY as well as having been a visiting artist at Massachusetts College of Art, Rochester Institute of Technology and Iowa State University.
