System Requirements: Here are the system requirements for to use our web conferencing software depending on what device you use. You need:
  • A Windows or Mac computer (or iPad)
  • A strong internet connection
  • A microphone and speakers
  • (usually built-in to your computer or USB headset) or a phone
  • A webcam to use HDFaces
  • (most newer laptops have them built in)
Most computers have built-in microphones and speakers, but you will get much better audio quality if you use a headset or handset. For sound, you can also call in on your landline or mobile device.

Dreaming of publishing your essay in a top newspaper or magazine, but feel your experiences aren’t unique enough? You’re not alone. Most of us have never moonlighted as a pirate or worked for the CIA, but in this 1 Day Online Personal Essay class, 2x NY Times Modern Love Alum Sara Eckel will share her pro insight to help you get your name in print. Through informative craft lectures and fun in-class exercises, you’ll unearth the universal truth in your particular experience, figure out the specific POV that makes your story stand out, and most importantly, impress editors with your ability to make a common experience seem fresh and new. By the end of class, you’ll have a better understanding of the direction in which you want to go, a start to your essay, and some personal essay ninja skills to get you through the draft.

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

Refund Policy
All sales are final and there are no refunds. Credit may be offered based on class availability. If you can’t come to class, call or email us as far in advance as possible. We will do everything we can to fill your spot, but we can’t make any guarantees. Credit eligibility is not based upon your reason for being unable to attend a class; it is based upon the timing of your credit request and our ability to fill your spot. If we find someone to take your place, you will receive class credit minus a $25 processing fee for 1 day classes and $50 processing fee for long classes. Otherwise, your payment will be forfeit. To use class credits, you need to sign up for class in advance by emailing [email protected] or calling 323.333.2954. If the class is being paid for as part of a payment plan, regardless of whether the student stops attending class, the payment plan must be paid in full by the end of the class. Failure to do so will result in the student’s account being turned over to collections.
