Angela Roskop Erisman

Teaches at Brooklyn Institute for Social Research

Angela Roskop Erisman holds a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, an M.A. in Semitics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a B.A. in English Literature from Lawrence University. Her professional activities straddle the worlds of academia and publishing. Her research and writing focuses on the literary formation of the Pentateuch/Torah and its situatedness in the cultures of ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Syria, and Greece. She is the author of The Wilderness Itineraries: Genre, Geography, and the Growth of Torah, winner of a 2014 Manfred Lautenschläger Award for Theological Promise. 

Her current book projects include a volume on the wilderness narrative in Exodus and Numbers and a volume of essays inspired by the flood story in Genesis. She is also the sole proprietor of Angela Roskop Erisman Editorial, specializing in editorial and book design. She served as Editorial Director of The Marginalia Review of Books and remains Editor-at-Large. When not studying Torah or polishing prose, she cooks, does calligraphy, takes photographs, plays the violin, drinks her husband’s gin, and teaches her three-year-old how to live the good life.
