Exploring Within - Collage and Mixed Media

EXPLORING WITHIN 3 DAY INTENSIVE COLLAGE AND MIXED MEDIA WORKSHOP

This is an exciting intensive workshop to learn the complete process of collage, mixed media methods and techniques. At the same time we will be working intuitively, exploring our own unique expressions. Come join us for work and fun and learning:

• Learn to mix and create your own personal palette. 
• Learn to create your own collage materials with paints and marks and transfers, and stencils
• We will do quick collage exercises on the “one moment” for warm-up and to develop intuitive responses.
• Learn how to overcome blocks and fears
• Learn to create wonderfully rich layers and textures, learn to excavate through layers
• Learn the fundamentals of the materials for making well crafted mixed media art which includes preparing the panel, adhesives and techniques for applying mixed media
• Create Mixed Media works on small wood panels.  Then, learn to take them big, up to 36” x 36”
• Receive a lot of one-on-one help, support and critiquing
• How to finish a piece using polymers.

Participants are Invited to bring a project in process or ideas for one to explore for one-on-one support and guidance.

Required Materials

• 3 to 4 small wood panels  up to 16” x 16” and  one 36” x 36” wood panel if you want to work large. 
• Books, magazines, and/or collage materials you particularly want to use
• Laser printed black and white xeroxes for transfers
• Chip brushes (Home Depot)
• Plastic scrapers (Home Depot)
• Blue tape (Home Depot)Large sponge (Home Depot)
• Spray bottle (Home Depot or Ace Hardware)
• Bondo scrapers (Ace Hardware)
• Paint brushes
• Brayer
• Drawing tools, Scissors, Mat knife, Rag
• Stencils
• Acrylic paint colors of your choice for mixing a palette you will use for the 3 days
• 32 oz fluid mat medium
• 16 oz gel medium
• Stencils you may wish to use
• Markers, graphite, oil pastels, and other drawing tools you wish to use
• Fixative spray
• 24” to 36” ruler
• Newspaper and plain drawing paper for making collage materials
• Mixed Media Workbook: 9” x 12” or 11” x 14”

We provide water buckets, paper plates, paper towels, black and white paint and some collage epherma, and some paper for studies and warm ups. 

The school will send out a map, materials list and welcome email approximately 10 days to 1 week before start of the class.
