Learn Unity in 8 Weeks

This 8 Week Unity course will get you directly involved and working within the indie game scene in SF. Besides learning the ins and outs of Unity and launching a game (maybe your first) on a platform of your choice by the end of the course, you’ll also gain access to a thriving community of local indie game developers.

• We assure you that this course is the most effective way to learn the Unity engine even if your goal is to use it for content other than games.
• Since game production incorporates every essential aspect of the Engine, completing the first 2 projects will give you the tools you need to start working on your desired project.

Course Outline and Schedule

Students are required to bring a laptop with Unity installed. The software can be downloaded for free online.

• Week 1: 2D Space Shooter: Intro to Unity/Coding + Inputs
• Week 2: 2D Space Shooter: Game Objects, Scripts, & Particle Systems
• Week 3: 3D Explorer: Unity Physics, Logic, The Asset Store, & World Building
• Week 4: 3D Explorer: Raycasts, Coroutines, UI, & Inventory Systems.
• Week 5: 3D Explorer: Rudimentary AI, Navmeshes, & Final Project Prepartion
• Week 6: Final Project: Pitching, Iterative Design, & Basic Animations
• Week 7: Final Project: Importing Libraries/Plugins, Advanced Particle Systems, & Controller Abstraction
• Week 8: Final Project: Exporting to Platforms, Launching on Itch.io, & Presentations
