Description
Class Level: All levels
Age Requirements: 16 and older
Average Class Size: 10
Teacher: Corey Hilz

What you'll learn in this photography class:

The Mormon Temple in Kensington, MD puts on a spectacular display of lights during the holiday season, with trees, bushes, reindeer, crèches, and other Biblical scenes, some with live models. These lights and the unique architecture of the Temple itself at night make for great photography.

Our shooting itinerary will take us to all the lighted displays put out by the Mormon Church each year in December. The bushes are decorated with 300,000 lights, and the Temple itself is awash in a soft white light, providing a great opportunity to practice shooting at night with a tripod.

The class begins with Corey discussing the strategies for night photography and how to best capture the displays and colorful lights. You will learn what camera settings to use to capture high quality images, with special attention on White Balance, ISO and Autofocus. Focusing in the dark can a challenge and Corey will share tips and techniques that will improve your focusing accuracy.

Throughout the class, Corey will work with each student as they photograph to ensure a strong understanding of capturing lights and night photography principles. This class is small enough where we can work with each person on an individual level so all skill levels are welcome from beginner to advanced.  This class is a must to add to your holiday memories and for creating holiday cards.

Any camera will do but for best results we recommend a DSLR or mirrorless camera with lenses in the range of 18mm-135mm or 200mm.  A tripod is necessary for this class. A cable release or remote is optional, but can be helpful.

COVID Safety Practices: Masks are optional.
