Rachel Butera

Teaches at Edge Studio Voice Over

The voices living inside Rachel come out so often that people always ask her, “Who are you today?” Born with a sharp ear for mimicry, Rachel began imitating a wide range of voices from the time she could speak. In 2014 it paid off when she wowed the crowd and judges of America’s Got Talent with her dead-on impressions of Rosie O’Donnell, Wanda Sykes, Cyndi Lauper, and many others. Today, Rachel’s characters and impressions can be heard regularly on the Howard Stern Show, in feature films and cartoons, and throughout social media.

But who is Rachel, really? Well, for one thing, she’s an alumna of Edge Studio! We produced her first commercial and animation demos, which she credits with giving her confidence that she could make a living with her voice. Therefore, Rachel considers herself first and foremost a voiceover artist.

Maybe you’ve heard her as the parrot in Disney’s Dog With A Blog. Or on the Fox ADHD cartoon, Golan The Insatiable, or as various characters in Trip Tank on Comedy Central, King Star King on Adult Swim, or in dozens of other animated series like Yu-gi-oh and Pokemon. She’s also narrated dozens of audiobooks for Audible.com, and voiced radio and TV commercials for McDonald’s, Dunkin Donuts, Charter Communications, the Style Network and others.

Rachel is also a live performer. As a stand-up comedian, she has opened for Carlos Mencia and Kevin Pollak, and worked rooms in The Comedy Store, the Ice House, the Improv and Flappers. She performs sketch comedy with the cast of TMI Hollywood at Second City, and has trained in improv and sketch writing at Upright Citizen’s Brigade. Rachel is also the host of her own podcast (Rachel Profiling), and co-hosted a podcast with Andy Dick. As an actor, she will be seen in episodes of The Impressions Guys and the Josh Robert Thompson Show, and her voice can be heard in the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film and the upcoming Terminator Genisys.

From all this, Rachel became a teacher, as well. Fascinated by the range of mimicry inherent in the human voice, she wondered, “Can everyone do this?” She believes they can, and she loves to prove it. “Because the voice box can be fine-tuned and manipulated to create infinite sounds, people can train their ear and learn to bend their vocal chords at will,” she says. Whether the student’s aim is to learn voice-matching, create brilliant animation characters, shine in promos or rock the commercials field, Rachel helps them find their voice ... and maybe other voices hidden inside.
