What you'll learn in this dye class:

Learn the beautiful art of bundle dyeing with plants! In this four-hour workshop, you will gain an understanding of how to work with natural dyes as you explore the process of bundle dyeing.

We will cover an introduction to natural dye plants, mordants, and different types of fabric. We will work with natural dyestuffs including onion skins, turmeric, fresh and dried flowers, eucalyptus, and more. You are encouraged to bring in your own plants to dye with!

You will learn how to bundle dye on silk and cotton, including how to prepare the fabric, place the dyestuffs, wrap the fabric, and steam the fabric on a stovetop. You will leave with two dyed pieces (a cotton towel and a silk scarf), along with an assortment of smaller sample pieces made from hammering plants onto fiber. Except to be amazed by the beautiful results! No prior experience necessary - beginners welcome!

Lovely afternoon spent with a bunch of plants. Kirsten's workshop approach worked great, as people brought their independent projects and even contributed plants. Kirsten steamed a ton of stuff. My pillowcase looks exquisite! I would definitely take this class again.
