Whether it’s in neutrals to neons, there is one pattern we absolutely cannot escape this summer – checkerboard! From skirts to shoes to even wallpaper, there’s no surface that these colorful squares can’t bring to life. So get ready to put those jewelry skills to work with our latest polymer clay earring class teaching you how to create – you guessed it – checkerboard patterns!

Our expert JamMaster will show you how to take summer’s hottest trend and create a unique set of earrings using intermediate polymer clay techniques and skills. Mix and match your way to a perfect checkerboard pattern that’s all your own! Learn how to lay out and mix your clay colors, create your checkered pattern and cut out and assemble a pair of earrings using shape templates or freehand design.

You will Learn:

  • How to cut, layout and mix your clays to create a checkered pattern.
  • How to create shapes using templates or freehand design.
  • How to shape, bake, finish and assemble your earrings.
  • How to create intermediate layered patterns using leftover clay scraps.

What You’ll Need at Home:

  • Glue Stick
  • Scissors
  • Magazines (not required, but great for finding inspiring shapes)
  • Pencil
  • Baking tray and aluminum foil
  • A smooth surface such as a glass slab, countertop (not wooden) or parchment paper (this will help to insure that your clay will be smooth and indent-free when you roll it out)
  • Oven (must be able to reach a temp of 275 degree Fahrenheit)

Please note: While participating in a virtual workshop, we require video participation. Unlike traditional webinars, we’re keeping our classes small and intimate. CraftJam was founded to foster community amongst its community and part of this is seeing and interacting with each other as well as the option to receive feedback and support for your projects from your JamMaster.

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

We are BYOB friendly! Crafting is paired best with your favorite drink of choice! But, you must be 21 or over. Younger? Just have a mocktail. No one will notice ;)
