Dr. Carol Langlois & Janet Majors

Carol was a University Executive before moving over to EdTech in 2015. She is the former VP of Hackbright Academy before its acquisition in 2016. She has also advised numerous other bootcamps and edtech startups in this space ever since. She founded Empowered Tech in 2017 to provide women in tech a space to share tips, tools, and resources while helping them with their career aspirations. Since its inception, Empowered Tech has grown to over 900 members. Dr. Carol is also a published author and playwright as well as a trained therapist where her research and work focus has been female self-esteem development. Recently, she joined a new startup that provides online mentoring to teens from under-resourced communities.

Janet's career is a classic example of a nonlinear path. She spent fifteen years in tech sales and marketing before taking a 10-year "sabbatical" working on consumer direct marketing, social media, and ecommerce endeavors in the wine industry. While Janet was taking front end design classes at Code Berkeley, she became aware that everyone was not getting equal access to tech opportunities. That experience inspired Janet to become a social advocate for creating a more diverse, inclusive and prepared tech workforce of tomorrow.
