What you'll learn in this metalsmithing class:

In this 5-session class, students will learn what a silversmith is all about. They will also learn how to design and create handmade jewelry. 

Throughout the course, students will learn how to use basic studio tools and many fabrication techniques. They will manipulate and work on gold, sterling silver, copper, plain silver, nickel and brass. 

Fabrication techniques like sawing, forming, joining, soldering, filing shapes, ring sizing, sanding, polishing and basic stone setting will be practiced throughout the classes. 

Students will also be taught basic design drawings and how to develop concepts for creating jewelry pieces. They will become familiar on working in a jewelry studio using all the available tools and equipment in the studio. 

Students will be required to create their own jewelry designs. They will be encouraged to experiment, play and explore with all the available materials.

Hand-outs that include a list of suppliers (tools & materials), jewelry art galleries & worldwide jewelry artist exhibits will be provided to give them full knowledge and awareness on the thriving jewelry industry.

No. Only tools will be provided for the entire duration of the class. Materials will also be provided ONLY for the first day of class and you must purchase materials for the subsequent sessions. A list of suppliers will be provided during the first class meeting.
