Haute Couture: Intensive

Tambour beading also known as Lunéville or Crochet de Lunéville is a French Haute Couture technique where beads or sequins can be attached to a fabric. The embroidery is done with a hook working through a fabric stretched tight as a drum. Students will learn how to create a design, set up a full size frame and how to work the hook through the fabric without catching before learning the technique. The technique is popular on International Catwalks and can be seen in shows by Elie Saab and Oscar De La Renta.

Day 1: Construct a full size embroidery frame with organza fabric and practice the tambour stitch in all directions with beads, bugles and sequins on transparent fabric.

Day 2: Learn the method for transferring a supplied design onto organza and apply techniques learned on day one to a design.

Day 3: Appliquéing fabrics to a design using the tambour stitch and incorporating with other materials such as ribbon.

Day 4: Start work on a new design on a more challenging non transparent fabric.

Day 5: Experimental day, your chance to work on anything you haven't learnt or really want to try. Can bring own project.

All course materials provided. 

Upon completion of the class students can request an official certificate detailing the new skills mastered.
