Sword Class NYC was founded in 2009, as a satellite school of the Sung Moo Kwan Kendo Academy, the largest school of its type in the United States. Sword Class NYC is the only school in the United States that offers both eastern and western sword styles side-by-side, encouraging exploration and discourse between the divergent forms. The official name of Sword Class NYC is Sung Do Kwan (in Korean – Seitokan in Japanese), which means ‘Academy of the Sacred Sword.’

We loved this class! We joined several other students, some experienced, others beginners like ourselves. The instructor was great and patient. What a fun experience for all ages.

The instructor was great and we enjoyed our time at the class. One note, the facility offers 3 beginner classes in rotation (2 on sword motions and 1 on footwork), but they aren't marked distinctly online. We took the footwork class which as I said, was a very good experience and the teacher was phenomenal, but we would probably have preferred to start with the sword motions so I wish they were listed on the site.
