Class Description

Description

Knowing how to use knives skillfully is the foundation of all cooking, and doesn't have to be scary or frustrating. Many home and even professional cooks don't always wield a knife correctly, however, which increases food preparation time and makes the process harder --- and less safe --- than it should be. Simply put, good knives are the foundation of a well-equipped kitchen.

This class remedies all these basic issues: You will learn how to slice, dice, chop, and much more in the safest and most efficient manner. This class will even guide you through the practice of keeping your knives sharp and handling them correctly.

School Notes:

Important: If you have registered any guests without a first and last name when booking, please email [email protected] with all guest first and last names so that they can be cleared for security.

There are no refunds or school credit issued when fewer than 48-hour notice from the class start date is given.

Students must attend the first class in a series. Students may make up missed classes in any Techniques series or Wine Essentials course without charge after attending the first lesson. Techniques make-up classes are available on a limited basis and must be arranged with ICE’s Guest Relations Manager. I am not a cook whatsoever and I took this class on a whim with some friends and I had a great time. Chef Terrance and Lincoln made the class fun and I learned a lot more about how I can improve my cuts (and become a better prep assistant).

Our Instructor (Nora I believe) was awesome! I started the class by unpacking my own knives I brought and cut myself, no fault but my own and I ended the class slicing basil like a pro! Seriously, for the first time, I have children in their late 20’s and 30’s, I learned how to properly hold a knife and properly slice veggies, using the blade of the knife versus pressing down with the power of my arm and chopping. The instructor walked around to the different stations providing individualized attention to each student. We made a delicious snack, and had a very productive evening. I highly recommend this class

Nora was an excellent teacher and skilled chef with knives. I thought she was so articulate, her demonstrations were spot on from an instructional perspective and she was actively engaged with the participants in the class by observing and providing individual hints and tips. It was fun and memorable! I now know how to handle a knife and let it do the work versus pushing down with force. She emphasized safety, organization, such as “Keep your cutting board clear of everything except the knife you are using” and “organize your preparation of vegetable steps: right is prepped and unfinished product, center is what you are working on cutting presently and left is finished product”. Highly recommend this class and instructor! Her assistant was excellent too! So sorry I don’t have his name to share! Thanks! The Mother of the Mother Daughter Duo!!!!

Class was as described and definitely learned good fundamentals. There was one specific individual in the class who was struggling quite a lot, and so the teacher of the class spent the majority of the time helping that individual and I didn’t get any hands-on feedback or guidance while we were practicing the techniques that we were taught.

Such a fun, informative class! Would definitely recommend :)
