Description
Class Level: All levels
Age Requirements: 18 and older
Average Class Size: 6
Teacher: Reyna de Courcy

What you'll learn in this quilting class:

A brand new quilt design for English Paper Piecing and Appliqué! In this three-session class, students will sharpen their EPP and appliqué skills to construct this unusual hexagonal throw-size quilt.

Similar to the construction of a Brimfield Awakening quilt, students will employ English Paper Piecing and appliqué to compose the blocks, and then piece them together by hand or machine.

Prerequisite:

Students should be comfortable with basic EPP.

Cutting mats and iron will be provided for use in the classroom.

Required Supplies: (all supplies available for purchase as Gotham Quilts)

  • Rotary Cutting tools: cutter, mat, 24" ruler
  • Straight pins
  • Needles for hand sewing (I recommend appliqué sharps)
  • Fabric scissors
  • Basting glue pen (optional but recommended)
  • Thread: bring a stack of options from your stash, or plan to shop during class. Medium grey & soft brown threads are super useful.
  • Fabric: Blenders, solids, or subtle low-contrast prints are recommended.
  • You will need 1.63 yards each of two background fabrics, and 1/4 yard pieces of two to four fabrics that will stand out against them.
  • You will also need roughly 12” square of 4-8 other fabrics for the little pieces.
  • For the 3rd session, you will want 2/3 yard of two different fabrics for borders.
Fabric and thread selection will be discussed in class! Bring options from your stash (however much you are comfortable carrying - the more the merrier), or plan to shop during class, OR come shop at Gotham when Reyna is working (Wed-Sun)!
