What you'll learn in this interior design course:

Plumbing Fixtures & Fittings – From toilets to shower systems: Present types of Plumbing fixtures and fitting required and used in today’s bathrooms, with an emphasis on residential bath applications, some commercial applications will be explored. Examples will be given to illustrate the choices faced when designing a bathroom from functional uses to aesthetic considerations. 

Fixtures and Fittings control the flow of water into the bathroom – learn how your choices not only impact the functionality of the space, but the drainage and plumbing issues. Explore the different types of sinks, toilets and tubs on the market today. Various finish choices from polished nickel to lacquered brass will be discussed.

  • Toilets and bidets – elongated vs. round fronts
  • Learn the difference between a 10” rough and 12” rough toilet
  • Water Efficiency
  • Vitreous China vs. Cast iron fixtures.
  • Acrylic vs. Cast enamel tubs.
  • Trendy sinks from Vessel types to stone.
  • What is an overflow?
  • Do I need shut off values? What is a shut off value?
  • Wall mounted faucets vs. deck mounted
  • Wide Spread vs. Centerset Faucets
  • Explore different options for Faucet Handles – levers, cross handles and single handle.
  • Shower controls: Learn the difference between a balance pressure system and thermostatic.
  • Can I replace my old tub with a shower stall? How is the plumbing affected?
  • ADA and elder-care considerations will be reviewed.
  • When is a hand-held shower head useful?


Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.
