Laying it Out: Introduction to 3D Printing

Additive manufacturing, or as it’s more commonly known, 3D printing, is primed to disrupt all forms of manufacturing — from medical devices to space exploration and more. These days, buying a 3D printer is as easy as going to a hardware store, but acquiring a machine is just the first step toward creating your own custom projects.

In this workshop, you’ll learn everything you need to know to get started with 3D printing. You’ll hear how it’s affecting the tech scene and learn how to create models using both code and computer aided design packages (CADs), ensure that a file can be printed, and pick the right materials for your project.

Prereqs & Preparation

No skills are required, though basic programming knowledge will help with script based modeling.

Preparation: Students must bring a laptop with the free versions of Fusion360 and Meshmixer already downloaded
