In the Clawhammer I class, old time banjo player and instructor Sarah Gibson teaches banjo tunes and students begin to learn clawhammer techniques to apply to simple songs. We will listen to source recordings in class to become more familiar with the roles clawhammer style banjo can fill. No prior instrumental experience necessary. In this class, old time guitarist and string band musician Eli Smith teaches the ins and outs of rhythm guitar playing in the old time style. Smith covers the essential techniques used to play guitar with an old time string band - meaning how to play along with a fiddle, a banjo, etc. on instrumental fiddle tunes as well as songs and ballads. Styles include the use of a thumb pick, a flat pick and finger picking.
