What you'll learn in this welding class:

What makes this Course Unique is that is is taught by an artist who has experience teaching both sculptors and welders. She is a Part-Time Associate Professor at Parsons School of Design, teaching Metal Fabrication. This class is an empowering experience for both beginners as well as people who have experienced welding in the past. The class is also unique because it will be "limited to 2 people" and we will were masks. The class structure is adhering to the current situation. You will receive individual help. The Studio has a wall of open windows for excellent ventilation.

In this class you will : set the machine, tack, and run a bead. While learning these skills, you will create a unique small sculpture to take home. We will discuss the many advantages of Mig welding when setting up your own shop, creating furniture, art, fabrication. etc.

A Gate Pass will be emailed the day before the Welding session.
Wear cotton clothes that can get dirty. Do not wear clothes you care about. Long cotton pants or jeans with closed toe shoes and socks. Bring a cotton long sleeve sweatshirt.
Welding gear, gloves, and welding hood are supplied and included with session.

I've been meaning to learn to weld for decades and I can't think of a better introduction than the one I got with Michelle. She's remarkably knowledgeable and experienced in a wide range of welding and metal working techniques, and, (more importantly for a beginner student), a skilled, patient and enthusiastic teacher. Her class was a great combination of information about the machinery and mechanics involved, (not only in MIG but in other welding techniques) and well paced and hands-on practice of well scaffolded skills. I feel like the lesson got me exactly the practical skills and information I needed to move forward, carefully, into the world of welding.
