What you'll learn in this portrait class:
Join this class and learn to paint a black-and-white portrait. Paint a custom portrait of your favorite face, It’s easier than you think. Your instructor, Christina Batch-Lee, will break the process into simple steps that even newbie artists can master.
We’ll work in grayscale, to explore mixing tones and build your painting “pixel by pixel” using a grid. A grid is a great way to scale an image up as well as help with rendering to capture likeness.
This is a class for everyone, no painting experience is needed, but even avid artists can enjoy exploring this playfully technical approach to painting.
Are materials provided and included in cost of the class? No.
You must bring a printout of a black and white photo – printed roughly 5.5″ x 7″. You can always transform a color photo to black and white by selecting “grayscale” in the printer dialog box.
Photo that works well is anything with a full range of tones (white, black and everything in between). It can be a portrait, a pet, or anything you want to stare at for a few hours.
Canvas, acrylic paints, brushes and everything else you need will be provided.

We do not issue refunds on workshop registrations.
- If you register for a workshop and later become unable to attend, we will gladly offer a credit if you notify us at least 5 business days before the workshop.
- We are unable to offer credits of any kind, or honor reschedule requests, with less than 5 business days advance notice.
In fairness to all of our customers, we are unable to make exceptions to our policy, including for reasons of illness or travel. If you are unable to attend a workshop at the last minute, we suggest giving your spot to a friend!
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
